Period 4 Semester Final

1. My favorite photo from this slideshow is #7. I really like this photo because of the bright colors that are shown compared to the black background. I also like how they incorporated the back with the same type of colors, and the focus is a blurry on purpose to give the balloons in the middle more focus. I love how the person in the photo also blends in with the background, but you can still make out the person because of the bright colors.

2. The best photo from the slideshow is #9. It is the best photo because the entire photo consists of shadows, but there are so many different shades that the colors are different, allowing the deer to stand out. Also, the picture has a transition of color changes, where the bottom is darker, and as you move up the picture, it gets lighter and clearer, but still hiding the background. On the top of the photo, it seems like the photographer was hiding somewhere, and was able to get close to the deer and take a picture without scaring it away. This is why #9 is the best photo.

3. I feel that my best work this semester was the second photo of my Masters of Photography project. Masters of Photography Project (#2) I think this is my best work because Robert Capa took photos that had a a lot of power behind a facial expression, and I felt that my second picture showed Frankie being troubled by a problem. Another reason is that I used one of my rules of composition, background, into this photo. I felt that with the lighting, the dark side of the background was behind Frankie, and the lighter side of the photo had the white wall. My third reason is that I used camera raw to edit this photo. Before this semester, I did not know how to use Photoshop or camera raw, so it also showed that I learned a new skill and I applied it to what I believe is my best work so far.

4. My three rules of composition are color focus, background, and symmetry.

5. Two Rules of Composition
.

In this photo, you can see that the color focus is on the blue, and that all the other colors are unsaturated. In the background, you can see some different shades of blue, like on Jason's jacket, or the sharpness of the blue on the backpack.

6. Your first rule is to "get closer". If your photos are not good enough, you need to get closer.

7. Working in groups have many benefits such as:

-Taking pictures of each other when we go outside to shoot.
-Interact with people and get to know each other inside and outside of the classroom.
-Making sure that we all know what to do for an assignment or project.
-Teach each other skills that we may not have previously known.
-Being part of a group and learn how to work with each other, either as a leader or a member.

8. There are some difficulties while working in groups such as:

-Cannot just do everything by yourself, you need to make sure that everyone can get the job done.
-If you do not like your group, then the products that you create will not be as good as others.
-Making sure everyone has their blogs and assignments done, instead of only your own.
-Need to compromise with your team, cannot be selfish.
-If you finish your own part, you need to help others, instead of just leaving them to do it by themselves, because they helped you before.

9. My favorite work product by another person from this class is Frankie's album cover.
Frankie's Album Cover Assignment

10. The master photographer that I studied was Robert Capa. He contributed war photos that such as the invasion on D-Day that no one else did. He went into battle with the troops, and was able to capture the fighting as it happened. I feel that his most significant contribution was his quote, if your pictures are not good enough, you need to get closer. This quote is also Mr. Farley's first rule of composition!

11. Dorthea Lange's most popular photo was Migrant Mother. It was taken on February or March of 1936 in Nipomo, California. The agency was the FSA: Farm Security Administration.

12. Henry Robinson Luce was the creator/founder of Life Magazine. The photojournalism magazine began publishing in 1936.

13. Robert Capa was a founding member of Magnum. The organization started in the year 1947.

14. Falling Soldier was taken on September 5th 1936. It was taken during the Spanish Civil War in Spain.

Masters of Photography- Robert Capa

#1

Before
After

In this photo, I had to make the background as dark as the other parts of the photo in make it seem like the sun was equally hitting everything in the photo. I also made the white not stand out as much to make sure that the light isn't focusing to the back.
 #2

Before
After

In this photo, I focused much more on the white after making the photo black and white. The light made Frankie seem like he is focusing on something, and his facial expression has strength in it.
 #3
Before
After

In this photo, the two of us are are the focus, so we have lighter colors compared to the really dark trees in the back. Also, we seem to be pointing to a place much more mysterious, hence the left side of the picture is a bit darker than the right side.

#4
Before
After

In this photo, the light coming from the back is focused to make it seem like Frankie is also taking advantage of the light in his photo that he is taking, Also, the clarity was enhanced to make him seem more focused on the shot he is about to take.

 #5

Before

After

In this photo, we made Frankie really dark compared to the book to show contrast between the two. I also made the whites not stand out as much in the back so there will be some focus onto the textbook in the front.

Description:

Robert Capa was considered a master of photography because he took pictures in five different wars and he was on the front lines to be close to the action. He was one of the founders of Magnum Photography, and his pictures of war left a lasting impression on people who have never seen what wars and battles were like.

About Robert Capa:

October 22, 1913 to May 25, 1954
London, North Africa, Italy and most notably Omaha Beach

He was a war photographer, mostly focusing on people.

He is unique because no one would take that big of a risk to get that close for his shots, but he always said that you have to get closer to get better pictures.

My View:

I chose Robert Capa because when I first saw this photos, I was really curious how he got so close up during those battles, and I wanted to know more about him.

Robert Capa inspired me to take pictures of people while being really close to them. I learned that you need to be yourself while you are in the shot, and trying to pose for the photo does not make it powerful.

While I was working on the project, we first tried to pose for the pictures, trying to imitate what Robert Capa took. We soon realized that the best pictures were of our normal behaviors and capturing those moments while being really close to them.

Second Portrait

In this picture, I made the picture much brighter because it was really dark in the front. My partner's name is Yuvraj.
